Road Traffic Amendment (Confiscation and Disposal of Vehicles) Bill 2008

Long Title The purpose of this Bill is to amend Part V Division 4 Subdivision 3 of the Road Traffic Act 1974 (RTA) to- * increase the impoundment period of a vehicle to 7 days; * require for impoundment of the vehicle for a period of three months upon conviction for a second offence of driving without a driver's licence, or racing or road rage offence; * require confiscation of the vehicle upon conviction for a third offence of driving without a driver's licence, or racing or road rage offence; * require confiscation of the vehicle upon conviction for driving without a driver's licence that has been suspended or cancelled due to a drink driving offence; and * give the Commissioner the discretion to sell, crush or use the vehicle in police covert operations upon the making of a confiscation order, or upon a failure to collect an impounded vehicle.
