Terms of Reference:The Committee will examine the scope and direction of the work currently being undertaken by government agencies, regulatory bodies and non-government organisations to improve the monitoring of child safe standards and the role of the Commissioner for Children and Young People in ensuring Western Australia’s independent oversight mechanisms operate in a way that makes the interests of children and young people the paramount consideration. In particular, the Committee will consider the following:
  • The recommendations made by the Commissioner for Children and Young People in the report ‘Oversight of services for children and young people in Western Australia’;
  • The recommendations from the ‘Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse’ relating to an independent oversight body responsible for monitoring and enforcing child safe standards; and
  • The response from the State Government of Western Australia to the above recommendations.
