MEN'S HEALTH
174. Hon COLIN TINCKNELL to the Leader of the House
representing the Minister for Women's Interests:
The Minister for Women's
Interests has highlighted the importance of gender as a key determinant in
health. Does the government believe it is the right time to be the first state
in this nation to appoint a minister for men's interests; and, if so,
when might this become reality; and, if not, why not?
Hon SUE
ELLERY replied:
I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
The
portfolio of women's interests was established to address ongoing and
deeply entrenched gender inequality and its impacts on women, and these issues
unfortunately remain relevant, as demonstrated through the statistics on such things as the gender pay
gap, family and domestic violence and sexual assault. Gender is a determinant
in health, which is why the McGowan government is developing a women's
health strategy and a men's health strategy.
