AMELIA LUCAS
639. Mrs L.M. HARVEY to
the Minister for Health:
I have a supplementary
question. Can the minister confirm whether the government has offered any
assistance to help pay for the operation, and will the government
undertake to ensure that Amelia Lucas is receiving the appropriate chemotherapy
medicines?
Mr R.H. COOK replied:
I counsel the member—in fact, I counsel all members—that
it is not wise for members of Parliament to try to intervene in the clinical
process or politicise the delivery of important clinical services. I accept the
basis upon which the member comes to the chamber. We are all concerned for
Amelia.
Mrs L.M. Harvey: Her mother has called me.
Mr R.H. COOK: I appreciate that. We have very strict
protocols for the way we communicate with members of Parliament regarding any
patient. On that basis, if the mother is happy to provide the member with that
clearance, we would be happy to provide the member with a briefing but I will
not be commenting further on an individual patient's care.
Visitors —
Great Southern Grammar
The SPEAKER: Just before the next question, on behalf
of the member for Albany I welcome Great Southern Grammar here today. All week I have been mentioning everyone else's
visitors and now I have students from one of my own schools up there,
and a great bunch of young people, too.
