WA Parliament is honoured to display Kapi Winki by Wingu Tingima in the Speaker’s Corridor. Wingu Tingima was a senior Pitjantjatjara woman who lived and worked on country for most of her life, and her work displays an intimate knowledge of country and culture.
WA Parliament has a commitment to partner with local institutions to showcase local and Australian works, and has secured Kapi WInki for a two year loan from the Art Gallery of Western Australia. In announcing the loan, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Michelle Roberts MLA said ‘Tingima is well known for seamlessly bringing together colour, line and form to create bold, intense and sometimes playful portraits of country’ and expressed her warm appreciation to the Art Gallery for the loan.
