What would Edith Say?

The Edith Cowan Centenary Primary School Video Competition

Winner Announced

Edith Cowan was the first woman in an Australian Parliament and to commemorate 100 years since her election to the Parliament of Western Australia, we are inviting year 5/6 classes across the state to submit a 90 second video exploring what Edith would say about a contemporary issue.
Throughout her lifetime, Edith campaigned tirelessly for women and children’s education, working and social rights. When she successfully ran for Parliament 100 years ago, Edith’s policy platform included the establishment of state kitchens, child endowment payments and day nurseries for working mothers. One of Edith’s significant achievements while in Parliament was winning the right for women to enter the legal and other professions.
Therefore, your challenge is to select a contemporary issue and look at it through the eyes of Edith. What would Edith Say? welcomes video submissions and can be in the form of theatre, song, poetry, spoken word or any other medium you can think of to explore Edith’s legacy.
Simply create your video, fill in the attached entry form and submit it through our website. The best entry will be judged by the Presiding Officers of the Parliament of Western Australia. You can even use our judging criteria below as a marking key for a curriculum linked assessment.

Entries open Friday, 12 March 2021, the date of Edith’s election, and close on Friday, 13 August 2021.
