Acts Amendment (Equality of Status) Bill 2002

Long Title The main purpose of this Bill is to ensure that all persons are equal before the law. The Bill will repeal the Married Woman's Property Act 1892 and amend various Acts as a consequence so that married women and women who are single or living in a de facto relationship have equal legal status. Also, discrimination against partners in certain relationships other than marital, in matters such as transfer of property, dependant spouse rebate, compensation schemes, health related legislation and inheritance will be removed.
Status Assented to
Royal Assent given 22 May 2003 as Act No. 28 of 2003. Different sections of this Act come into operation on Royal Assent and Proclamation. For details refer to Commencement Clause of the Bill (see also Assent and Commencement information for Acts)
