Primary Responsibilities and Additional Information: | The Western Australian Legislative Council is seeking applications for the position of the Clerk of the Legislative Council and Clerk of the Parliaments (“the Clerk”). The Clerk provides advice to the President, Ministers, Members of Parliament and parliamentary committees on parliamentary law, practice and procedure. The Clerk is also the Chief Executive Officer and Accountable Officer of the Legislative Council, responsible for ensuring effective operational performance and budgetary control for the department.
The Clerk must of necessity be a person with detailed knowledge and experience of parliamentary law, practice and procedures. The Clerk must also manage the Legislative Council efficiently, effectively and economically, including, developing and implementing systems to ensure the lawful and appropriate use of, accountability for and safeguarding of, public resources. The successful applicant will be appointed by Commission of the Governor on the recommendation of the President of the Legislative Council.
