Parliament: 40 Session: 1

Answered on

METHAMPHETAMINE — SENTENCING

1306. Hon CHARLES SMITH to the Leader of the House representing the Attorney General:

I refer to the recent amendment to the Misuse of Drug Act 2017, allowing sentencing of life imprisonment for the possession of 28 grams or more of methamphetamine. How many people have been sentenced to life imprisonment since the law gained royal assent?

Hon SUE ELLERY replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question. However, due to the short time frame and level of detail required to complete the answer, the Attorney General requests that it be placed on notice.

Hon Charles Smith: I lodged it two days ago.
