PRISON HEALTH SERVICES
185. Hon ALISON XAMON to the minister representing the
Minister for Corrective Services:
I refer to the proposal to transfer
the delivery of prison health services to the Department of Health.
(1) Does the
government still intend to transfer prison health services to the Department of
Health?
(2) If no to (2),
why not?
(3) If a final decision on this matter has not been
made, when does the minister expect this decision will be made?
(4) If yes to (1)
—
(a) what is the
preferred model; and
(b) when is it anticipated that
prison health services will be transferred to the Department of Health?
Hon
STEPHEN DAWSON replied:
I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) This proposal
was a concept raised by the former Liberal–National government and the
outcomes of the review undertaken in August 2017 have not been accepted by the
Minister for Corrective Services.
(2)–(3) The
whole-of-prison health requirements are being examined along with all other
services as part of the department's network design programs for the
entire Western Australian prison estate and will be under the oversight of the
justice planning and reform committee.
(4) Not applicable.
