METHAMPHETAMINE ACTION
PLAN TASKFORCE REPORT — 24-HOUR HELPLINE
415. Hon ALISON XAMON to the parliamentary
secretary representing the Minister for Mental Health:
I refer to the 24-hour helpline
initiative referred to in the ''Full Government Response to the Western Australian
Methamphetamine Taskforce Report''.
(1) How will this helpline differ
from the current alcohol and drug service helpline?
(2) What is meant by a one-stop shop
in this context?
(3) Who will deliver the helpline?
(4) Is it
intended that the 24-hour helpline one-stop shop will cover both mental health
and alcohol and other drug concerns?
(5) What consultation has been
undertaken on the one-stop shop?
Hon ALANNA
CLOHESY replied:
I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) The 24-hour
helpline will aim to cover mental health and alcohol and other drug issues and
to provide immediate phone support and referral to appropriate services and
treatment.
(2) The scope of
the one-stop shop is in development at this time. Making help easier to find
with the development of a one-stop shop to better support individuals and
families was one of the six immediate actions to the Methamphetamine Action
Plan Taskforce report. The Mental Health Commission has commenced planning for
the development of a one-stop shop 24-hour support service anticipated to provide
a phone service for information on available treatment support, advice and
counselling and referral for mental health and alcohol and other drug issues;
support and expert advice for individuals, families, clinicians and service
providers; and a user-friendly service directory and self-help resources.
(3) The configuration and service
delivery are to be determined.
(4) Yes.
(5) None as yet.
A co-design and consultation process is anticipated as part of the one-stop
shop development.
