SPEED LIMIT —
HAMLET GROVE, DERBY
1189. Hon ROBIN CHAPPLE to the minister representing the
Minister for Transport:
I
refer to Lennard Road, Galvans Way, Adcock Street, Windjana Road and Manning
Road in Hamlet Grove, Derby.
(1) What is the current speed limit
for each road?
(2) Have the speed limits been
changed at all?
(3) If yes to (2) —
(a) what were the
limits previously;
(b) when were they changed; and
(c) why were they changed?
(4) Is the
minister aware that the roads are signed at 70 kilometres an hour despite the
longest being only approximately 1.1 kilometres and the shortest being 0.35
kilometres?
(5) Does the minister consider this
to be a safe speed, given it is a residential area?
Hon
STEPHEN DAWSON replied:
I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) The sealed
sections of Lennard Road and Windjana Road are zoned at 70 kilometres an hour.
The other roads are unsealed and do not have a posted speed zone in accordance
with Main Roads policy.
(2) Only the
sealed sections of Lennard Road and Windjana Road have been changed to 70
kilometres an hour.
(3) (a) They did not have a speed
limit other than the state maximum for unzoned roads.
Hon Robin Chapple
interjected.
Hon STEPHEN DAWSON: I am
answering the question on behalf of another minister in another place. I am
giving the member the answer that I have here, so if he has an issue, can he
please take it up with that minister. I continue my answer —
(b) The
70-kilometre-an-hour speed zones on the sealed sections of Lennard Road and
Windjana Road were recently approved and signs were erected on 24 October 2018.
(c) Main Roads
initiated speed zoning of the sealed sections of Lennard Road and Windjana
Road, following requests from local residents who advised that some motorists
were speeding through the area.
(4)–(5) The
minister is advised that the sealed sections of road that have been speed zoned
meet the minimum length requirements for speed zoning.
