Question Without Notice No. 1178 asked in the Legislative Council on 21 November 2018 by Hon Tim Clifford

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

ROYAL GEORGE HOTEL — REDEVELOPMENT

1178. Hon TIM CLIFFORD to the Leader of the House representing the Minister for Heritage:

I thank the minister for the response to my question without notice 1163 regarding the proposed development of the Royal George Hotel in East Fremantle, which stated that the National Trust of Australia undertook a public expression of interest process for the site.

(1) How many responses to that expression of interest process were garnered?

(2) Of the expressions of interest that were submitted, how many were deemed suitable and included in an evaluation?

(3) What criteria and methodology were used to determine the successful tenderer?

(4) Will the minister please explain what heritage conditions have been imposed on the developer and whether there is a caveat on the title that enforces any conditions?

Hon SUE ELLERY replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question.

(1) There were five.

(2) There were two.

(3) They were suitability of proposal, economic viability and availability of funding, and compliance with the conservation plan for the site.

(4) There is a heritage agreement between the owner of the Royal George Hotel and the Heritage Council that ensures that the building is conserved and maintained to appropriate standards in the future.
