Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 570 asked in the Legislative Council on 12 September 2017 by Hon Nick Goiran

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

SEXUAL ASSAULT RESOURCE CENTRE
      570. Hon NICK GOIRAN to the parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Health:
I refer to the Sexual Assault Resource Centre, primarily located on the King Edward Memorial Hospital for Women site, and its delivery of outreach services in Joondalup.
      (1) What is the average wait time from time of initial contact with SARC to time of first appointment with the outreach centre in the Joondalup area?
      (2) What access to quality counselling and support services is available for victims of sexual assault residing at an impractical distance from either KEMH or Joondalup?
Hon ALANNA CLOHESY replied:
I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question. I am advised as follows.
(1) The average wait time is 38 days.
      (2) In addition to a main office and clinic run from the King Edward Memorial Hospital site in Subiaco, the Sexual Assault Resource Centre runs outreach clinics at seven venues across the metropolitan area, providing quality counselling and support services to people who have experienced a sexual assault. The outreach clinics are located in Joondalup, Clarkson, Midland, Gosnells, Armadale, Fremantle and Rockingham. A range of other non-government and private counselling/therapy services not specific to sexual assault operate across the metropolitan area.
