NATIONAL DISABILITY INSURANCE SCHEME —
MARKET REVIEW
457. Hon PETER COLLIER to the Minister for Disability Services:
I refer to the highly anticipated National Disability
Insurance Agency market review of the National Disability Insurance Scheme.
(1) When does the minister anticipate the market review to be
released?
(2) Will the
minister give an undertaking to table the market review once he has received
it; and, if not, why not?
Hon STEPHEN DAWSON
replied:
I thank the Leader of the Opposition for the question.
(1)–(2)
The honourable member would know that the
market review has been undertaken by the National Disability Insurance
Agency on behalf of the Disability Reform Council, so that agency will release
the report, the market review, at the time it wants to release it. It will not
be up to me to release it.
Hon Peter
Collier: They haven't told you? Have they given you any indication?
Hon STEPHEN DAWSON: No, it will not.
It
has undertaken the work and consultation. Many groups in Western Australia have
put in submissions about the pricing in this state, including the state
government. That is being worked out at the moment. I understand that there
were officers over from the National Disability Insurance Agency talking to
National Disability Services Western Australia yesterday, but given that the
federal government is in caretaker mode at the moment, I do not anticipate any
announcements or release of the report by the NDIA until whichever federal
minister is sworn in. From what I have been told in the briefings I have
had, it is certainly the intention for the outcomes of the market review to
start from 1 July this year, so working backwards, we can anticipate that
fairly soon after the federal election, something will go to the NDIA board and
that the new minister will make an announcement shortly thereafter.
