ROYAL GEORGE HOTEL —
REDEVELOPMENT
1163. Hon TIM CLIFFORD to the minister representing the
Minister for Planning:
I refer to a petition with 2 200
signatures asking that the proposed development of the Royal George Hotel in
East Fremantle be limited to six storeys rather than the proposed 21 storeys.
(1) According to
the minister's answer to Hon Simon O'Brien's question
without notice 719, asked in August this year, the site was sold to 34 Duke
Street Pty Ltd for just $570 000. Were any other offers for this property
sought or secured?
(2) Could the
minister provide the rationale behind Western Australian Planning Commission
recommendations that would see the Town of East Fremantle's scheme
amendment, made under the Local Planning Schemes Regulations 2015, overridden?
(3) Could the
minister clarify the rationale behind the apparent decision made by the WAPC's
statutory planning committee to remove height and setback limits for the Royal
George Hotel site?
Hon
STEPHEN DAWSON replied:
I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) The minister
is advised that the National Trust undertook a public expression of interest
process for the site, seeking parties to invest in the Royal George Hotel.
(2)–(3) No final decision
has been made in respect to this proposal.
