PUBLIC HOUSING —
SOUTH WEST REGION
1108. Hon COLIN TINCKNELL to the minister representing the
Minister for Housing:
(1) Can the
minister please tell me how many public houses in Western Australia are
currently unoccupied and how many are located within the South West Region?
(2) How are many
public houses are uninhabitable due to not meeting minimum health and safety
standards, are undergoing non-standard maintenance work, or are undergoing
maintenance for re-letting?
(3) Does the
government have an estimate of how much it would cost to bring all these
dwellings up to code so that they can be occupied by those in our community who
desperately need them?
Hon STEPHEN DAWSON
replied:
I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) As at 31 August
2019, of the 36 162 public housing properties statewide, 957 properties were
undergoing maintenance to be re-let. A further 902 properties are vacant for a number
of reasons, including that they are awaiting demolition or are being reviewed
for development or repurposing. As at 31 August 2019, in the South West Region,
there are 77 public housing properties that are under maintenance to be re-let.
Thirty-seven public housing properties in the South West Region are also vacant
for a number of reasons, including that they are awaiting demolition or are
being reviewed for development or repurposing.
(2) Due to the
nature of this part of the question, I request the honourable member put this
part of the question on notice.
(3) No.
