Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 9 asked in the Legislative Council on 13 March 2018 by Hon Colin Tincknell

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

SOUTHERN PORTS AUTHORITY — BUNBURY PORT UPGRADE
      9. Hon COLIN TINCKNELL to the minister representing the Minister for Transport:
      (1) What is the Southern Ports Authority's policy on employing local and Indigenous workers in the Bunbury region?
      (2) With regard to the Bunbury port upgrade, what percentage of the contracts have been awarded to local Bunbury businesses?
      (3) What percentage of local Bunbury residents were employed as employees or subcontractors on the Bunbury port upgrade project in 2017?
      (4) What percentage of Indigenous residents were employed as employees or subcontractors on the Bunbury port upgrade project in 2017?
Hon STEPHEN DAWSON replied:
I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question. The following information has been provided by the Minister for Transport.
      (1) Although the Southern Ports Authority does not run any targeted equal employment opportunity programs in the Bunbury region, it is committed to the principles of equal employment opportunity for all employees.
(2)–(4) The SPA did not undertake a Bunbury port upgrade project in 2017. That is the answer. If the member would like a briefing on the issue and on when the upgrade might have happened, I am very happy to organise it, and he can find me afterwards behind the Chair.
