Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 748 asked in the Legislative Council on 1 November 2017 by Hon Simon O’Brien

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITIES — DISABILITY SERVICES
      748. Hon SIMON O'BRIEN to the Minister for Disability Services:
Notice of this question was given on 12 October.
      (1) What benefits and efficiencies have been realised by the Disability Services Commission through its incorporation into the new Department of Communities?
      (2) If the answer to (1) is none, what benefits and efficiencies are expected to be obtained and when?
      (3) Are DCS requirements for human resources services, information technology services, and procurement and other corporate services being met within the organisation as before, or are other arrangements in place; and, if so, what are those arrangements?
Hon STEPHEN DAWSON replied:
I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question and his ongoing interest in the disability services portfolio.
(1)–(3) The creation of the new Department of Communities provides an opportunity to deliver better services to families and communities in Western Australia, as well as find efficiencies inside government with back-of-house operations. New post-machinery-of-government structures are currently being developed and consulted upon and will be finalised in due course.
