PARLIAMENTARY INSPECTOR OF THE CORRUPTION AND CRIME COMMISSION —APPOINTMENT

337. Hon NICK GOIRAN to the Leader of the House representing the Attorney General:

This question is directed to the Leader of the House representing the Attorney General at the request of the government, and I did this on Tuesday, 31 March.

I refer to the Premier's functions of consultation and recommendation under the Corruption, Crime and Misconduct Act 2003.

(1) Is any aspect of the section 189 or 193 process to appoint a Parliamentary Inspector or an Acting Parliamentary Inspector of the Corruption and Crime Commission currently underway?

(2) Who is the current Parliamentary Inspector of the Corruption and Crime Commission, and on what date does his tenure expire?

(3) Who are the current Acting Parliamentary Inspectors of the Corruption and Crime Commission, and on what date do their tenures expire?

Hon SUE ELLERY replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question.

(1) Yes. Advertisements calling for expressions of interest for appointment as the Parliamentary Inspector of the Corruption and Crime Commission will be placed in The West Australian of 4 April and 8 April 2020.

(2) Hon Michael Murray, AM, QC, has tendered his resignation as the Parliamentary Inspector of the Corruption and Crime Commission with effect from 31 March 2020.

(3) The terms of Mr Matthew Howard, SC, and Hon John Chaney, SC, as Acting Parliamentary Inspectors of the Corruption and Crime Commission expire on 31 December 2021.
