BUNBURY REGIONAL PRISON — UPGRADE
984. Hon ALISON XAMON to the minister representing the
Minister for Corrective Services:
I refer to the Bunbury Regional
Prison upgrade.
(1) Does the upgrade include improved
access to digital technology for people in custody through —
(a) in-cell technology capability;
(b) unit-level computer cluster
capability; or
(c) other new technology
capabilities?
(2) If yes to (1)(c), what are the
new technologies?
(3) If yes to (1)(a)–(c),
can the minister please advise how many prisoners in the new 160-bed unit will
have access to digital technology?
(4) Does the
upgrade include improved access to digital technology for other prisoners in
the prison?
(5) If yes to (4), how many?

thank the honourable member for some notice of the question. I note that this
question was asked on 9 October 2018, so this information is valid as of
that date.
(1)–(5) The
design process for Bunbury Regional Prison is not yet finalised and enhanced
access for prisoners to digital technology is being considered as part of the
overall plan.
