Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 1035 asked in the Legislative Council on 19 September 2019 by Hon Peter Collier

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

WESTPORT TASKFORCE — OPTION 1 — INFRASTRUCTURE UPGRADES

1035. Hon PETER COLLIER to the minister representing the Minister for Transport:

I refer to Westport Taskforce's latest report.

(1) Has Main Roads undertaken any work on the cost of infrastructure upgrades to support option 1 identified in the Westport Beacon?

(2) If yes, what is the estimated cost to upgrade Anketell Road, Tonkin Highway and rail infrastructure?

Hon STEPHEN DAWSON replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question.

(1)–(2) High-level cost estimates were prepared for comparison purposes between port options. As per Westport Beacon issue 8, the high-level cost estimates for infrastructure upgrades associated with an outer harbour, including building the new port, duplicating the south west main rail line, and expanding Rowley or Anketell Roads, came in at just under $4 billion. The Westport Taskforce will be undertaking more detailed cost analysis during the next stages of the project.
