Parliament: 40 Session: 1

WATER CORPORATION — CHAIRMAN — RESIGNATION

101. Hon ROBIN CHAPPLE to the Minister for Regional Development:

I refer to the answer to question without notice 12, asked by me in the Legislative Council on 11 February 2020.

(1) Was the minister aware that Michael Hollett, the former chairperson of the Water Corporation was the director of the Kimberley Marine Support Base Pty Ltd, the proponents behind the Broome $110 million floating wharf?

(2) If no to (1), why not?

(3) What negotiations occurred between either Michael Hollett, representatives of the Kimberley Marine Support Base Pty Ltd and the minister or the department prior to the minister's press release of Friday, 20 September 2019?

Hon DARREN WEST replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question. On behalf of the Minister for Regional Development, I give the following answer.

(1) Yes.

(2) Not applicable.

(3) Representatives of Kimberley Marine Support Base Pty Ltd, the Kimberley Ports Authority and the Department of Transport held meetings as necessary throughout 2018 and 2019 to negotiate and finalise the long-term commercial lease for the facility. The minister had a meeting with Kimberley Marine Support Base Pty Ltd on 27 September 2018.
