Question

I refer to recent calls for more support services for Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) diagnosis, and I ask:
(a) can a FASD diagnosis be accessed without cost;
(b) if yes to (a), what access pathways are currently available without cost;
(c) which of (b), are available in the regions (please indicate which regions they are available in);
(d) what support services are available for those diagnosed with FASD:
(i) in relation to (d), which of these services:
(A) can be accessed without cost; and
(B) are currently available in the regions (please indicate which regions they are available in); and
(e) what support services are available for those caring for a person or a child diagnosed with FASD:
(i) in relation to (e), which of these services:
(A) can be accessed without cost?
(B) are currently available in the regions (please indicate which regions they are available in)?

I am advised:

 

(a) Yes.

 

(b) The Child Development Service, Paediatricians within the Koorliny Moort program based at Perth Children’s Hospital can perform medical assessments for FASD, Women and Newborn Drug and Alcohol Service and General Practitioner referral to regional Developmental Paediatricians and Psychology services.

 

(c) Developmental Paediatric services are available in Kimberley, Pilbara, South West, Goldfields, Great Southern, Wheatbelt and Midwest.

 

(d) Developmental therapies such as Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech Pathology, Social Work and Psychology.

 

(d)(i)(A) All.

 

(d)(i)(B) All WACHS regions have access to Child Development Services.

 

(e) National Organisation for Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders Australia, FASD Hub is a website developed by Telethon Kids Institute which families can access to find information on FASD and available services, WACHS, GPs and Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations.

(e)(i)(B) All WACHS regions have access to these support services.
