Question Without Notice No. 760 asked in the Legislative Council on 1 November 2017 by Hon Colin Holt

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

RACING INDUSTRY — FUNDING — WESTERN AUSTRALIAN TAB
      760. Hon COLIN HOLT to the minister representing the Minister for Racing and Gaming:
The submission to the Australian Competition Tribunal by the chief executive officer of Racing and Wagering Western Australia states —
Distributions, grants and implicit subsidies are made to the racing industry and sports industry by RWWA, with the majority being funded out of the WATAB.
Can the minister please provide a breakdown of the funding made to the racing industry, highlighting the percentage of that distribution funded out of the Western Australian TAB versus other funding sources for the years 2011–12, 2012–13, 2013–14, 2014–15 and 2015–16?
Hon ALANNAH MacTIERNAN replied:
I thank the member for the question. The following information has been provided to me by the Minister for Racing and Gaming.

For 2012–13, the total figure was $140.5 million, comprising 83.15 per cent funding from the WA TAB and 16.85 per cent of funding from WA race field receipts. For 2013–14, the total distribution was $155.8 million, comprising 83.47 per cent funding from the WA TAB and 16.53 per cent funding from WA race field receipts. In 2014–15, the respective figure was $170.6 million, comprising 79.41 per cent funding from the WA TAB and 20.59 per cent funding from WA race field receipts.
