Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 187 asked in the Legislative Council on 14 March 2019 by Hon Robin Chapple

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

GREAT NORTHERN HIGHWAY — BROOME–DERBY

187. Hon ROBIN CHAPPLE to the minister representing the Minister for Transport:

I refer to the Great Northern Highway from Broome to Derby.

(1) What is the cost or estimated cost to repair the road?

(2) When will it be completed?

(3) Is it being repaired to the same standard as it was previously repaired?

(4) If yes to (3), is the minister confident it is being repaired to withstand another flood?

Hon STEPHEN DAWSON replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question. I note that this question was asked on 12 February; the answer was current as of that date.

(1) The estimated cost to repair the flood damage to Great Northern Highway between Broome and Derby is $14 million.

(2) The majority of the flood damage repairs have been completed. There are some minor works outstanding that will be completed in 2019.

(3) The majority of the road will be reconstructed back to the same standard, with some sections widened to an 11-metre pavement width.

(4) The road has been designed to withstand normal design rainfall events for that region.
