Question Without Notice No. 613 asked in the Legislative Council on 2 September 2021 by Hon Peter Collier

Parliament: 41 Session: 1

MENTAL HEALTH CO-RESPONSE TEAM — GERALDTON

613. Hon PETER COLLIER to the Minister for Mental Health:

I refer to the media release of Monday, 30 August 2021, titled ''Mental Health Co-response team expanded to Geraldton''.

(1) How many police officers and mental health clinicians are part of the mental health co-response team in Geraldton?

(2) Will the team be located in Geraldton permanently; and, if not, why not?

(3) If no to (2), how long will the team be located in Geraldton?

Hon SUE ELLERY replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question. I provide the following answer on behalf of the Minister for Mental Health.

(1) There will be one authorised mental health practitioner in the mobile team as well as one Aboriginal mental health worker, who will provide support from a local knowledge and cultural perspective. Midwest regional police will be provided with relevant background health information on the consumer from the mental health practitioner located at the Perth Police Operations Centre while en route to the consumer. Questions relating to the number of police officers will need to be directed to the Minister for Police.

(2) Yes.

(3) Not applicable.
