COMMUNITY KINDERGARTENS

224. Hon DONNA FARAGHER to the Minister for Education and Training:

I refer to community kindergartens.

(1) What was the total funding allocated to community kindergartens in 2013–14, 2014–15, 2015–16, 2016–17 and 2017–18?

(2) For each of the years referred to in (1), how many staff were allocated to community kindergartens?

(3) What are the predicted savings expected to be achieved each year through the implementation of the new enrolment threshold?

(4) How many staff are expected to be impacted through the implementation of the new enrolment threshold?

Hon SUE ELLERY replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question.

(1) The following funding allocations to community kindergartens are for calendar years: 2013, $4 389 861; 2014, $4 152 463; 2015, $3 549 705; 2016, $3 272 691; and 2017, $3 549 739.

(2) The number of staff allocated to community kindergartens from 2013 to 2017 were: in 2013, 25.2 FTE teacher and 18 FTE education assistant; in 2014, 23.8 FTE teacher and 17 FTE education assistant; in 2015, 21 FTE teacher and 15 FTE education assistant; in 2016, 18.9 FTE teacher and 13.5 FTE education assistant; and in 2017, 18.9 FTE teacher and 13.5 FTE education assistant.

(3) If recent enrolment trends at community kindergartens continue, predicted savings over the three financial years 2018–19 to 2020–21 are $1.1 million.

(4) It is expected to be 4.8 FTE.
