Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 943 asked in the Legislative Council on 16 September 2020 by Hon Robin Chapple

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

JUUKAN GORGE CAVES — ABORIGINAL CULTURAL MATERIAL COMMITTEE

943. Hon ROBIN CHAPPLE to the minister representing the Minister for Aboriginal Affairs:

I refer to the minutes of the ordinary meeting of the Aboriginal Cultural Material Committee held in East Perth on Wednesday, 18 December 2013 and item 3.10.

(1) Who were the attendees at that meeting, who were the apologies and who were the Department of Aboriginal Affairs staff in attendance?

(2) Who provided advice to the ACMC relative to the site assessments listed in table K10, and will the minister table that advice?

(3) In relation to resolution 2013/200—consent with conditions, mining—which refers to Brock-20 and Brock-21, have the conditions applied to the landowner been provided to the department?

(4) If yes to (3), will the minister table the written report?

Hon STEPHEN DAWSON replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question.

(1) The following members were in attendance at the 18 December 2013 ACMC meeting: Hon Gavin Fielding, AM, chairperson; Mrs Vanessa Kickett, member; Dr Ian MacLeod, deputy ex officio, Western Australian Museum; Mr Ken McCrackan, ex officio, Department of Lands; and Mr Aaron Rayner, deputy ex officio, Department of Aboriginal Affairs.

The apologies were: Mr Alec Coles, ex officio, Western Australian Museum; Ms Vanessa Davies, member; and Mr Cliff Weeks, ex officio, Department of Aboriginal Affairs.

The staff of the then Department of Aboriginal Affairs in attendance were the Acting Registrar of Aboriginal Sites, the executive officer of the ACMC and the acting heritage project officer.

(2) Heritage staff of the then Department of Aboriginal Affairs provided advice. I will not table the advice at this time as it contains names and culturally sensitive information that would need to be redacted.

(3) No. The reporting condition is due at the end of the purpose.

(4) Not applicable.
