GOLD ROYALTY RATE INCREASE
664. Hon MICHAEL MISCHIN to the minister representing the Treasurer:
I refer to the government's gazetted increase in gold royalties.
(1) Since the March election, has the Treasurer stated or given a reassurance that there would be no increase in gold royalties?
(2) If yes to (1), when and on what occasions, and to whom?
(3) What consultation has been conducted with goldminers regarding an increase in gold royalties, when and with whom?
(4) When did the Treasurer first inform goldminers that there may be an increase in gold royalties, or a change to the formula by which they were calculated?
Hon STEPHEN DAWSON replied:
I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question.
(1) The Treasurer made it clear that all key revenue and spending decisions would be outlined in the 2017–18 budget.
(2) Not applicable.
(3) The Treasurer and his office have met with a number of gold companies and industry representatives to discuss the gold royalty change.
(4) The 2017–18 budget announced the gold royalty rate changes. There is no change to the gold royalty rate formula.
