Parliament: 41 Session: 1

Answered on 10 August 2022

FIONA STANLEY HOSPITAL — ACCREDITATION

622. Hon STEVE MARTIN to the Leader of the House representing the Minister for Health:

I refer to the accreditation of Fiona Stanley Hospital, according to the requirements of the Australian Health Service Safety and Quality Accreditation Scheme.

(1) Has this accreditation been completed?

(2) If so, when was this assessment undertaken?

(3) How many not-met actions have been identified at the initial assessment?

(4) What were these not-met actions?

Hon SUE ELLERY replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question.

(1)–(2) No.

(3)–(4) Fiona Stanley Fremantle Hospitals Group underwent an initial accreditation assessment survey against the new eight National Safety and Quality in Health Standards, and National Mental Health Standards on 13 to 17 June 2022. At the conclusion of the survey, the South Metropolitan Health Service was advised of one not-met action, for comprehensive care standard 5.35, which requires remediation within 60 working days. This initial assessment was then subject to a review by the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care, which selected Fiona Stanley Hospital for its review due to its status as a large hospital and the first to be subject to a review under the new national standards. Fiona Stanley Hospital will be subject to final review by the surveyors who will determine whether any of those have been addressed and are ready for closure. South Metropolitan Health Service is on track to address outstanding not-met actions to ensure it receives full accreditation once the assessment is complete.
