INNER CITY COLLEGE — PROJECT COST
1218. Hon DONNA FARAGHER to the Minister for Education and
Training:
I refer to the new high school being
built in Subiaco, referred to as Inner City College.
(1) Does the
total project cost for stage 1 of the school remain at $68 million; and, if
not, what is the revised total project cost for stage 1?
(2) What is the expected total
project cost of the school building program at full stage completion?
(3) Has the total
project cost referred to in (2) increased from the original budget allocation;
and, if yes, by how much?
Hon SUE
ELLERY replied:
I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question.
(1) No. As stated
in a media statement by the Minister for Planning and me dated 8 August 2018,
the total project cost for stage 1 is $70.6 million. The additional cost is due
to the unique vertical nature of this proposal, which limits opportunities for
future alterations and additions. This requires a more comprehensive stage 1
build, including specialist facilities for design and technology at lower
ground level, and the gymnasium, cafeteria and lecture theatre at the size
required for the ultimate design capacity of 2 000 students. As the site is restricted,
parking is also required to be located underground.
(2) Stage 1 has
been costed at $70.6 million. Stage 2 is still in the planning phase and
funding is yet to be allocated.
(3) Yes. The
original budget for stage 1 has increased by $2.8 million, from $67.8 million
to $70.6 million.
