Question Directed to the: Minister for Regional Development representing the Minister for Mines and Petroleum

Question

(1) I refer to the Media Statement "Government introduces strict new controls for hydraulic fracturing" released on Tuesday, 27 November 2018, and to the Minister's statement that the Dampier Peninsula is to be excluded from fracking, and ask:
(a) if the Minister accepts that the township of Broome is on the Dampier Peninsula; and
(b) if no to (a), why not?
(2) I refer to the Minister's statement that the boundary of the Dampier Peninsula will be determined through a community consultation process, and ask:
(a) who will conduct the consultation;
(b) when will the consultation occur;
(c) where will the consultation occur;
(d) how will the Minister ensure that all of the community will have an opportunity to have a say and that their opinions will be taken into account;
(e) how will the Minister ensure the Dampier Peninsula is excluded from fracking; and
(f) how will the Minister ensure that the exclusion of fracking on the Dampier Peninsula would be maintained by an incoming Liberal–National Government or any other Government?

(a) – (f)           The boundary of the Dampier Peninsula as it relates to hydraulic fracturing will be established when the assessment of the Indigenous values, environmental values and stakeholder views have been taken into account.
