SOUTH REGIONAL TAFE —
ENROLMENTS
441. Hon MICHAEL MISCHIN to the Minister for Education and
Training:
My question without notice of which
some notice has been given is directed to the Minister for Education and
Training, on behalf of Hon Jim Chown, who deeply regrets his absence on urgent
parliamentary business.
(1) What is the current number of
enrolments at South Regional TAFE's Busselton campus?
(2) What are the projected
enrolments at this facility for the next three years?
(3) What plans
does the government have in place to meet the future expected growth of student
numbers in the south west, particularly in and around Vasse?
(4) What is the
current status of negotiations for a second TAFE facility in the south west
region, particularly in and around Vasse; and
(a) is there a time frame for a site
to be secured; and, if not, why not; and
(b) is there a time frame for this
facility to be built; and, if not, why not?
Hon SUE
ELLERY replied:
I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question and for his commitment to the south west of Western
Australia.
(1) There are 300 students
currently enrolled at the Busselton campus.
(2) Based on
Australian Bureau of Statistics March 2018 data, the South West Development
Commission cites 2.3 per cent growth for Busselton's population from
2013 to March 2018. It is likely the campus growth will mirror the 2.3 per cent
growth over the next five-year period of average annual growth.
(3) The
Department of Training and Workforce Development continues to monitor
population growth and training demands in the south west.
(4) There is no
time frame for securing a second TAFE site in the south west region, as funding
must first be approved.
