Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 1391 asked in the Legislative Council on 21 November 2019 by Hon Martin Aldridge

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

POLICE — ROTARY WING AIRCRAFT — AUDITOR GENERAL'S REPORT

1391. Hon MARTIN ALDRIDGE to the minister representing the Minister for Police:

I refer to the eleventh report of the Auditor General, which found the minister's response to Legislative Council question on notice 1191 ''was not reasonable and therefore not appropriate''.

(1) When will the minister provide the information sought by Parliament in the aforementioned question?

(2) Has the minister sought advice from the State Solicitor's Office or the Department of the Premier and Cabinet in relation to this question; and, if so, on what date was advice received?

(3) What advice was proffered to the minister by the agencies identified in (2)?

Hon STEPHEN DAWSON replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question. The following answer has been provided to me by the Minister for Police.

(1)–(3) As stated in the Auditor General's report, the minister properly sought advice from the Western Australia Police Force before responding to the request, and the minister followed the WA Police Force's advice. As also stated in the report, the minister advised the Auditor General that she had asked the WA Police Force to seek advice from the Department of the Premier and Cabinet and the State Solicitor's Office as to whether it is appropriate for the information to now be provided to Parliament. The WA Police Force is yet to provide advice.
