Question Directed to the: Minister for Environment representing the Minister for Police
Parliament: 40 Session: 1

Question

I refer to recent incidents involving confrontations between animal activist groups and the agricultural community, including incidents in Harvey, Muchea, and threats of activism in Northam, which have all required police intervention of some degree, and I ask:
(a) how many complaints have police received in regard to activist behaviour in the past 12 months;
(b) how many charges, move on notices, or other actions have been issued by police to activists in the past 12 months;
(c) how many convictions have been made in relation to activist behaviour in the past 12 months; and
(d) has there been any increase in the number of complaints, charges, move on notices, or convictions relating to activist behaviour in the past 12 months compared to previous years?

Answered on 2 April 2019

The Western Australian Police Force advise:

(a) – (d) Offences detected and investigated cannot be linked to activism on the WA Police Force systems. Two persons have been charged and convicted in relation to recent incidents.
