ELDER ABUSE — DRAFT STRATEGY

Seniors and Ageing:
I
refer to the ''Draft WA Strategy to Respond to the Abuse of Older People
(Elder Abuse)'' released on 15 June 2019 by the Department of
Communities.
(1) What is the target date to
finalise the strategy?
(2) What is the intended time line
for the implementation of the strategy?
(3) How many of
the 35 recommendations made in the final report of the Select Committee into
Elder Abuse have been incorporated in the draft strategy?
(4) Which government agencies and
departments have been identified to collect data on elder abuse?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) It is planned for the strategy
to be finalised and launched towards the end of 2019.
(2) It is a 10-year strategy
supported by two-year rolling action plans.
(3) All 35 recommendations have been incorporated in
the draft strategy. The draft strategy focuses on high-level objectives.
The two-year rolling action plans will contain initiatives from other agencies such
as the Western Australia Police Force, the Department of Justice, the
Department of Health and Landgate.
(4) The
Department of Communities will work with a range of agencies including, but not
limited to, the Western Australia Police Force; the Department of Justice; the
Department of Health; the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety;
and Landgate to develop effective data collection on elder abuse.
