CLIMATE CHANGE POLICY —
ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AUTHORITY
183. Hon TIM CLIFFORD to the Leader of the House
representing the Premier:
I understand that the government
held meetings today with major fossil fuel corporations regarding the
Environmental Protection Authority's climate change policy, which sets
out methods to create transparency and accountability for greenhouse gas
emissions that are generated by industry. The Premier yesterday informed me
that the Minister for Environment would be leading consultations and engagement
with conservation groups as well as the broader resources sector.
(1) Will meetings
be arranged with conservation groups in an urgent fashion, as have the meetings
with the resources sector?
(2) Will the
Premier be attending and addressing the schoolkids' strike tomorrow to
provide an explanation about his negative response to the state's
independent Environmental Protection Authority's climate change policy?
Hon SUE
ELLERY replied:
I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question.
(1) As per its
media release today, the Environmental Protection Authority will be undertaking
further consultation with industry and stakeholders.
(2) The Premier
was not invited to address the event.
