Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 897 asked in the Legislative Council on 21 August 2019 by Hon Simon O’Brien

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

SHIPPING CONTAINERS — NORTH WHARF, FREMANTLE

897. Hon SIMON O'BRIEN to the Minister for Ports:

Further to my question regarding subsidy payments for sea containers moved to and from Fremantle port by rail, for each of the last three financial years, provide the following.

(1) What was the total amount paid as subsidy for moving containers by rail?

(2) Who were the parties to receive subsidy payments and how much did each receive?

Hon ALANNAH MacTIERNAN replied:

I thank the member for the question. I note that, strictly speaking, issues of the rail subsidy fall within the purview and responsibility of the Minister for Transport, but we realise there is a crossover here.

(1) In 2016–17, it was $2.55 million; in 2017–18, it was $3.53 million; and in 2018–19, it was $5.93 million.

(2) The names of individual customers and the value of the subsidy they received falls within the definition of ''confidential information'' for the purposes of the subsidy deed for the Fremantle port rail service.
