refer to the Inspector of Custodial Services’ report of the 2017 Inspection of
Melaleuca Remand and Reintegration Facility, and to the Inspector’s
recommendation regarding providing prisoners with access to dental services:
(a) has the Inspector’s recommendation now been
actioned;
(b) if
no to (a), why not;
(c) will the Minister please
advise how many prisoners from Melaleuca have been transported to Bandyup to
access dental services in 2018 in:
(i) January;
(ii) February;
(iii) March;
(iv) April;
(v) May;
(vi) June;
(vii) July;
(viii) August; and
(ix) September; and
(d) will the Minister please advise how many prisoners requested
access to dental services in in 2018 in:
(i) January;
(ii) February;
(iii) March;
(iv) April;
(v) May;
(vi) June;
(vii) July;
(viii) August; and
(ix) September?

(a) Yes – Melaleuca prisoners requiring urgent or emergency dental services are being provided dental services at Bandyup Women’s Prison or a tertiary institution. The Department of Justice, Corrective Services and Sodexo are currently finalising an Interfacility Working Procedure, which formalises this arrangement.
