KALGOORLIE QUARANTINE AND DECONTAMINATION FACILITY
917. Hon COLIN de GRUSSA to the Minister for Agriculture and
Food:
I refer to the Kalgoorlie quarantine and decontamination
facility.
(1) Have the
times at which the facility is open to livestock transporters changed in any
way during 2020?
(2) If yes to
(1), what changes took place and when did they occur, why were the times
changed and what consultation with users of the facility was undertaken prior
to the changes being made?
(3) Have there
been any instances during the past six months involving livestock being yarded
at the facility outside operating hours?
Hon ALANNAH MacTIERNAN
replied:
I thank the member for the question. Member, I am happy to
have a discussion with any people who might be making complaints to you about
this.
(1) I have received advice from the department that
there have been no changes to the operating hours of the Kalgoorlie quarantine
and decontamination facility. I am told that standard business hours remain the
same. If stock arrive outside these hours, unloading and inspection may
be arranged with prior notification, if the
authorised officer is available and it is safe to do so. Applicable fees will
be raised for such activities.
(2) Not applicable.
(3) Yes. Management at the Department of Primary
Industries and Regional Development has recently become aware that some transporters have unsupervised
access to the yard outside standard hours and consideration is being
given to how access to the facility outside business hours can be implemented
safely.
