MINING —
GINGILUP–JASPER WETLAND SYSTEM
1248. Hon DIANE EVERS to the minister representing the
Minister for Mines and Petroleum:
I refer to the mining lease
application M70/1385, which covers areas within the Gingilup–Jasper
wetland system and the previous mining exploration licence covering part of
this site.
(1) What was the
name of the company that held a previous exploration licence over part of this
site?
(2) What reason
was given by that company for not continuing with an application to mine?
(3) Was part of the area under the previous exploration
licence originally within D'Entrecasteaux National Park?
(4) Was there
ever an agreement, understanding or consideration that if the company did not
proceed with an application to mine, any land formerly within D'Entrecasteaux
National Park would be reinstated into the park?
(5) If yes to
(4), why did this not occur?
Hon
ALANNAH MacTIERNAN replied:
I am sorry, member; I have not seen
that question and nor do I have a copy of that in my file.
