Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 1088 asked in the Legislative Council on 25 September 2019 by Hon Robin Scott

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

HOSPITALS, CLINICS, NURSING POSTS AND AGED-CARE FACILITIES — MAINTENANCE —MINING AND PASTORAL REGION

1088. Hon ROBIN SCOTT to the parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Health:

I refer to the $13 585 allocated to the Mining and Pastoral Region for maintenance and repairs at hospitals, clinics, nursing posts, aged-care facilities and residences.

(1) Were travel time and kilometres factored into the allocated amounts, considering the location of some of the facilities?

(2) Who decided what work has to be carried out?

(3) How were the dollar values arrived at for the various facilities?

(4) Will local contractors be considered to carry out the repairs and maintenance?

Hon ALANNA CLOHESY replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question.

(1)–(3) In late 2018, WA Country Health Service regional teams developed a four-year outlook of minor works requirements. The works items have been identified from within the 2018 submission. Dollar value estimates for the various facilities were developed locally through a mix of contractor quotes and awareness of local industry and knowledge of previous works undertaken.

(4) WACHS will be working with the Department of Finance to ensure that local contractors are engaged to undertake the works wherever possible.
