Answered on 16 April 2020

I am advised:

(a)(i) the number of mental health inpatient beds:

  • 2015-16: 0
  • 2016-17: 0
  • 2017-18: 0
  • 2018-19: 0
  • 2019- to date: 0

(ii) the number of AOD residential treatment beds purchased by the Mental Health Commission:

  • 2015-16: 12
  • 2016-17: 12
  • 2017-18: 22
  • 2018-19: 22
  • 2019- to date: 22

(iii) the number of AOD non-residential treatment places is best shown by the annual contracted number of clients treated:

  • 2015-16: 650
  • 2016-17: 650
  • 2017-18: 650
  • 2018-19: 850
  • 2019-20: 850

(b)(i) Currently consumers receive mental health treatment on the general ward of the Geraldton Regional Hospital or are transferred to Perth if their clinical condition warrants transfer. As part of the 2018-19 Budget Process, the State Government announced a $73.3 million capital investment over five years for stage 1 of the redevelopment of the Geraldton Health Campus. This redevelopment includes an expanded emergency department and critical care unit, an acute psychiatric unit, a mental health short stay unit, and service upgrades to the existing infrastructure. The units will have 16 mental health beds in total.

(ii) AOD residential treatment - there is currently no waiting list.

(iii) AOD non-residential treatment - there is currently no waiting list.

(c) Not applicable.
