Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 857 asked in the Legislative Council on 28 November 2017 by Hon Rick Mazza

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

COMMUNITY RESOURCE CENTRES
      857. Hon RICK MAZZA to the Minister for Regional Development:
I refer to the 38.5 per cent cut in funding to community resource centres, many of which have become pivotal facilities in many regional and rural townships.
      (1) Of the 105 community resource centres, how many have been established in the Agricultural Region, the South West Region and the Mining and Pastoral Region?
(2) How is funding allocated across the centres?
(3) Has funding been cut evenly across all the centres?
              (4) If no to (3), can the minister provide the detail of the funding cuts for each centre affected?
Hon ALANNAH MacTIERNAN replied:
I thank the member for the question.
      (1) There are 104 community resource centres in Western Australia—45 in the Agricultural Region, 15 in the South West Region and 43 in the Mining and Pastoral Region. There is also a CRC in Serpentine–Jarrahdale.
      (2) CRCs across the state all receive a standard payment, plus some minor variations based on demographic indicators and remote location.
(3) Funding for the CRC program has been maintained for this and the next financial year.
      (4) A review of the CRC program will be undertaken in 2018, focusing on function, location and value for money of CRCs. Future funding for individual CRCs will be considered as part of that review.
