INTERM SWIMMING PROGRAM
1083. Hon JACQUI BOYDELL to the Minister for Education and
I refer to the Interm Swimming
program run by the Department of Education.
(1) Will Interm
Swimming lessons be offered at any public schools in Port Hedland, and could
the minister please outline which schools will and will not be participating in
(2) Are there any
other regional public schools that do not offer Interm Swimming where a pool is
readily accessible to the community; and, if yes, please outline which schools
and the reasons for not offering the program?
(3) If no to (1),
what is the reason for the lessons not being run, and what plans does the
government have to ensure that this issue is rectified as soon as possible?
Hon SUE ELLERY replied:
I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) Yes. All
public primary schools will participate in the program—that is, Cassia
Primary School, Cassia Education Support
Centre, Baler Primary School, South Hedland Primary School and Port Hedland
(2) Yes. Regional
Interm Swimming programs are organised locally by a school or network of
schools, which then inform the Department of Education that the program is
running. Programs are being delivered at all locations as advised and requested
by schools. As Interm Swimming programs are organised locally in regional Western
Australia, the department does not keep a central register that matches schools
with accessible pools.
(3) Not applicable.
