RACING AND GAMING —
POINT-OF-CONSUMPTION WAGERING TAX
229. Hon COLIN TINCKNELL to the minister representing the
Treasurer:
I refer to the point-of-consumption
wagering tax.
(1) Will the
minister confirm that the revenue raised by the point-of-consumption tax will
be transferred to the racing industry as was stated in the 2017 budget?
(2) If yes to
(1), what percentage of revenue will be transferred to the racing industry?
(3) If no to (1),
where will it be directed?
Hon
STEPHEN DAWSON replied:
I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question.
(1) The 2017
budget committed to provide funding to the racing industry to offset any direct
materially financial impacts that the point-of-consumption tax may have on the
industry. The government stands by this commitment.
(2) The point-of-consumption tax is not scheduled to
commence until 1 January 2019. The funding provided to the industry will be set
in accordance with the principle outlined in the answer to the previous
question offsetting any direct materially financial impacts that the point-of-consumption
tax may have on the industry.
(3) Not
applicable.
