Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 438 asked in the Legislative Council on 22 August 2017 by Hon Ken Baston

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

CONTAMINATED SITES — EXMOUTH
      438. Hon KEN BASTON to the Minister for Environment:
      (1) Can the minister confirm how many registered contaminated sites exist within one kilometre of the intersection of Nimitz and Huston Streets in Exmouth?
(2) Of these, how many are considered to be remediated?
Hon STEPHEN DAWSON replied:
I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question. The following information has been provided to me by the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation.
      (1) Five separate contaminated sites are recorded under the Contaminated Sites Act 2003 within one kilometre of the intersection of Nimitz and Huston Streets in Exmouth. These are —
      (a) a former depot;
      (b) an asbestos‑contaminated site;
      (c) a former power station;
      (d) an operational service station; and
      (e) a former service station.
      Some of these sites comprise more than one lot or land parcel.
(2) Three sites are currently remediated or partially remediated —
      (a) the former depot, which is now classified as decontaminated;
      (b) the asbestos‑contaminated site is now partially remediated for restricted use; and
      (c) the former power station is now partially remediated for restricted use.
