Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 593 asked in the Legislative Council on 12 September 2017 by Hon Martin Aldridge

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

REGIONAL POLICE STATIONS — SWORN OFFICERS — VACANT POSITIONS
      593. Hon MARTIN ALDRIDGE to the minister representing the Minister for Police:
I refer to recent media reports of rising vacancies at regional police stations.
(1) How many vacancies currently exist for sworn officers at regional police stations?
(2) What is the location of each vacancy?
(3) When was the vacancy first advertised?
      (4) What interim arrangements are in place to cover the vacant position to ensure community safety is not compromised?
Hon STEPHEN DAWSON replied:
I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question. The following information has been provided by the Minister for Police.
      (1) There were 24 substantively vacant positions out of a total of 1 537 positions across regional WA locations as at 5 September 2017.
(2)–(4) Due to operational sensitivities, specific information relating to staffing levels of individual police stations is not released. Resources are principally allocated at a district level, and district superintendents deploy these resources within the district to provide the best possible policing service to meet operational requirements and the varying needs of the community, ensuring appropriate responses to routine and urgent matters, as well as any emergency situation.
