Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 406 asked in the Legislative Council on 13 May 2020 by Hon Peter Collier

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

CORONAVIRUS — INTERSTATE AND INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS —EXEMPTIONS

406. Hon PETER COLLIER to the minister representing the Minister for Police:

I have two questions from me and five from other members.

The PRESIDENT: That is seven in total.

Hon PETER COLLIER: I refer to question without notice 383, asked on Tuesday, 12 May 2020, regarding exemptions to interstate and international border restrictions.

Will the minister provide a list of all the reasons why an exemption was approved under the ''other approved grounds'' category; and, if not, why not?

Hon STEPHEN DAWSON replied:

I thank the Leader of the Opposition for some notice of the question. The following answer has been provided to me by the Minister for Police.

The Western Australia Police Force advises that, as outlined in response to question without notice 383, applications for exemptions are assessed on an individual basis and it is not possible to break down the exact number of applications. ''Other approved grounds'' include Western Australian residents who are returning to reside in Western Australia, as well as exceptional circumstances such as an exemption for a person's attendance at a family member's funeral or to receive urgent medical treatment.
